Mirror Mirror
When you look into the mirror who do you see?
Look into your own eyes and tell me who is looking back at you. In the reflection,
you will either look with the filter of your past and how your failures want to
define you, or who people say you are. Or you will see the truth who God says
you are.
The world around us is always setting up
mirrors to reflect a distorted image to prevent us from ever discovering the
truth. Each mirror is often like a carnival side show with twisted glass to
show you a counterfeit image and in every way to trick you into believing that the
contorted image is reality.
Many paths lie before us ones to the left and
ones to the right. Each one offers us easy solutions, simple pleasures, and an
invitation to anesthetize our fears. And all we must do is agree to simply
become a sleeping soul unaware of the slippery slope falling away before us
into a life that produces very little of what could have been. Many step up to
this carnival ride that goes around and around only to stop, often too late to
change a life that never touched what it could have been. Are these the tears
He will wipe away on that day?
There is a way out and it is through a very
narrow door, hidden by court jesters, dancing distraction and deceptions, all
arrayed to prevent us from ever learning the truth. If we will take out the sword
of the Spirit and hack our way through underbrush of lies, you will find the
narrow gate.
Once you find the gate it seems to be locked
and franticly we search for the key, often giving up all hope because every
time we think we have found the right combination, we fail to see the door
open. It is nly in the ultimate place of desperation where we fling away all
other hope and from our hearts we cry out for an answer that none of our feeble
efforts can produce.
Finally, we find The Key, and see written on
this key of gold, “Death to Selfishness,” “Death to Self Determination,” “Death
to Self-Centeredness.” Slowly the tears begin to fall upon our cheeks as we
face our true enemy and the power behind it. It is our own arrogance,
independent spirit, and rebellious nature that will not submit to authority.
Only those who choose to fall on their own sword or fall on the Rock! And
surrender to the process of removing the outer husk of a seed that must be
planted deep beneath the earth, dying only to live again as He sheds His
warmth, moisture and sunlight on the soil of our souls. Like a hand reaching up
from the depths of momentary light affliction we break through the surface into
the light. Now we are ready to take the first steps to true life, no longer
living by a self-centered compass but an exterior faith that only exists by
putting our hands in His. Now we are ready for the baptism of Fire.
We pass through the gate like hot medal super-heated
to the point of melting only to be extruded by the pressure to survive and a
tenacious courage to find the truth and the One who will explain it to us. Out
the other side we come, re-molded into another image, one that is a true
reflection of our Father, the one who created us. We find ourselves no longer
with the power of pride but the dynamic power of faith in the one who holds all
the answers to all our questions.
We come out into a wide open and spacious place
of abundance. We hear Him whisper in our ears, “The war is over!” It was won
long before we drew our first breath. He has always been here waiting for us to
arrive. The gate is there few pay the price to find it and still fewer allow
Him to take them through the extruding process of pressure to be conformed into
His image. Only when we discover we do not have the power alone to surrender, do
we abandon all self-effort. Like one who has jumped from the highest mountain, do
we trust that His arms will be there to catch us.
Every single human being on planet earth is
being pulled now to choose which path they will follow. Not every path lined
with roses may be the right path. Will you choose the road that looks good or
the path that Jesus is ahead of you on? It is so true that it is the, “Road
Less Traveled,” that leads to our liberty and the reflection of His eyes
through ours.
Only the mirror of the Holy Spirit will reflect
the truth.
But O what joy and O what rapture for those you
will not stop until they are in His presence and hear Him say, “Well done,
welcome home!”
“I surrender all, All to Jesus, I surrender;
all to Him I freely give”
